Gary Lumby MBE – being a NED
Since we introduced the business lunch concept Gary Lumby MBE has been a loyal attendee, Gary has spoken at our Newcastle events and expertly managed the Q&A with Sir Peter Vardy.
In whatever capacity Gary participates his energy and enthusiasm is always infectious and we know that we will always walk away with a little more knowledge and thanks to his exceptional networking skills we will have met some very good new contacts too.
Our most recent lunch at Wynyard Hall at which Gary spoke was a perfect master class in networking effectively and a demonstration of what a positive experience it can be.
In his talk Gary explained that he is a prolific networker and outlined his reasons why, specifically in relation to the role of a Non Executive Director. His commentary on the value of good networking was certainly inspiring for those of us who had devoted time to attend the event on Monday.
Gary gave an eloquent and insightful overview of the path to becoming a NED and how to succeed in the role and deliver the most effective support for your clients. In the Q&A that followed Gary gave very honest answers about how he juggles his client portfolio, the pros and cons of holding the role of an NED across a variety of companies and his own personal successes and failures.
It was as ever an inspiring presentation from Gary and left the room buzzing with conversation and contact details being exchanged. Gary did not just deliver a presentation on the role of NED’s , he also energised the whole networking experience.
Our thanks to Kate Cooper-Fay of CXY for her sponsorship and hosting of this event.
